source for leds

so can anybody tell me the best 5v source for leds im thinking of wiring about 8 blue leds

That's the best place to take power from. You still will have to use a resistor to get it down to the 5 volts that you want.

You can use either the 5v or 12v source which ever one because you will still need a resistor.

thanks for all the replys i should of said i know where all the power points are on the 360 motherboard to get a better answer but im just wondering what ones people use the most and think are the most reliable for leds is the 5v spot in front by the extra fan header a good stable source or no

Solder to the HDD power supply. That way, it should go off when the motherboard is off.

Umm, probably just play it safe and not to do it.
Instead you can use the DVD power which should also go off with the console.

ok so i can use the dvd power for the leds in the xbox itself then use the power in the hard drive for the leds inside that

Yep. Easiest 5V connection as you can splice the wires.
There is no such thing as 'permanent'!

ok thanks i already did a couple hard drives with leds just never put any inside the xbox it self thanks again also could i solder a wire under where the 5v pin is or should i just splice the wire

It's a lot easier just to splice the wire. Less chance of bridges that might fry the drive or cause it to open and close etc.
