Please feel free to discuss here, sucess? failure? calls for help?

Failure, at least for me. Not because it isn't technically well written but because it doesn't go far enough.

I am trying to wire up my first model for lighting and motorization so I need a _really complete_ set of 'how to' instructions, from what to buy to specifically how to wire things up.

I have a rather ambitious idea:

9 lights,
4 motorized props
2 motorized guns
2 motorized solenoid/spring units.

The kit is big with wings alone approaching three feet in span and another foot or more of penetration through a fuselage and down into a wooden display stand so I first need WIRE of the right voltage specs, cut to length. I would like to have a wall mount plug to ensure enough power gets everywhere I need to as I go along and I would like to have the ability to close off ALL power to the model to protect the LEDs from surges or overheating without unplugging (once closed up, maintenance will be all but impossible).

Finally, I would like to add sound effects to replicate the propellor noise and guns. This last is conditional on skill level and equipment needed for burning of the chips (I have had 5,000 dollar pro quotes which is completely out of my league) and in any case may not be appropriate for this forum.

If someone could reliably point me towards a contact point or additional FAQ that could get me going or even just a starter set with presoldered/clipon connectors, and some kind of PnP circuit board able to handle independent channels that would be _great_.

Thanks- KPl.

Resistor Question

Postby Darsh » Mon May 11, 2009 9:37 am

The LEDcalculator told me I would need an 18 ohm 1/4 watt resistor (for wiring lights in my 360 controller) I was wondering if I could use a 20 ohm 1/2 resistor instead. Will this work at all or will it make my lights too dim.

Depends, what does the calculator say the actually calculated resistance is?

the wattage doesnt matter, as long as it meets or exceeds it.

Thank you for the nice article. There is a better LED resistor calculator than the one you listed here:

http://ledcalculator.net

It also draws the circuit for you.
