Halo 3: ODST

Postby SR2K » Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:53 pm

What are owners thoughts of the game? I'm a big Halo fan, but I hate Cod (Personal and ethical reasons, dont question them) I think that ODST looks good but I'm worried that it would end up being too cod-like.

So Thoughts?

My thoughts are that shipping is too bloody slow and I want it...but, what I have heard from the OU rumor mill is that fire fight is dam hard, almost to the point of being ridiculous, but the campaign is amazing an like any halo game way too short.

Im hoping for lotsa vehicles! :D I'm still not sure if I'll get it. It looks good, but I'm thinking I'll wait to hear your verdict on it. I get $15 off it at bestbuy in a week anyway.

You don't like COD?! Heh, heh.
I've only played the first mission on ODST and then went to sleep (no joke).
There are no new weapons, no new vehicles. Just a new story. What I've heard from my brother (who could be bothered to go further than the fist mission) is that there's a good warthog mission (Don't we love them :!: ) but the rest is pretty boring. I intend to play some more and I'll give my verdict.

I'm not getting it. I'm going to get this broken PS3 I bought reflowed, and then get motorstorm. Probably Dirt 2 for xbox too. My friends did say it was good though, I haven't gotten any negative reviews.

Ok I played for about an hour and shot through some missions (get it? 'shot through' )
It's kinda split in two. the first mission and every other mission is you walking around in pitch black at the places you play laterlooking for objects (crap crap crap). Once you find the object, you play the mission before it becomes deserted and pitch black. X minutes after drop...
You always have to regroup with your squad. The warthog mission I did in a Chopper (I'm guessing it was a warthog mission since there were about 5). I would not buy this game but rent it instead as it takes a few hours to complete I believe and I don't think you'd want to play it again.
I guess if you're bored of the previous halo stories, you could play this. I'll see if it gets any better...

hmmm, keep us posted and let me know what you final judgement is when you finish it. I'm getting a bit bored of playing "The Ark" and "The Coveneant" and "The Storm" over and over so I'm debating getting it. Do you ever leave mombassa other than in the flashbacks?

In my opinion it teaches violence towards fellow humans and hatred towards other nationalities.

I got it for my birthday (September 24th) and just finished the campaign yesterday. The beginning was very boring but once you got a few missions in it became pretty good. I loved the banshee mission. It was WAY too short though...

Then my friend and I played some firefight (we are both not that good but at the same time not horrible). We started off on normal and could hardly get to the second wave and once we tried playing on easy we felt that it lacked any challenge. The only level that was good for just 2 people IMO was the ONI Interior one. All of the other ones were too big and took too long to find all of the Covenant.

Another big gripe is that you can't search for other players and play firefight. You have to invite them yourself, unlike Nazi Zombies.

If they would've released a Halo ODST Multiplayer option too I would love it but since you just get the Halo 3 that you've been playing FOREVER the multiplayer is lacking.

I would give it a 7/10.

Worth buying if you are a super Halo fan and if not then just try renting it.

The banshee mission was crap. It was the same as the one in Halo 3 but shorter and in a smaller space. It didn't require much skill either, nor the game. With a pistol (from Halo - WOO!) or carbine, there's no challenge to kill grunts or brutes. Just aim around their head and the bullet magically goes into it. Hunters haven't changed and are still fun to dance with. I'm getting ssick of the in=between missions where you walk in darkness and look for 'BEACONS' so you can actually have fun. THey might've well as made it so you wait 2 - 5 minutes watching grunts have sex, then play a mission. Although that's odd, it would be more exciting!
EDIT: Ok, just completed it. That was a surprise! (literally). That was 3 sessions on it which means about 4 hours I'd say max. The dark mission got better, a lot better but still, it's repeating Halo 3. It's left with a cliffhanger, welcome new Halo! Think the cow can get any drier?
Final Verdict : Absolute S**T. Boring, copies Halo 3 and is pretty easy (played it on normal). I'd definitely rent this game, not buy it. Ah well, my brother's loss.

Always depends on the person too. Are you a Halo 3 guy, or COD4?

I just got the game last night, and finished it today. Took me about 5hrs on normal to run through it. The plot was interesting, I found it creative the way they did it. You basically wander around looking for beacons. At the beacon is an out of place object, you touch it and although your character (The Rookie) stays there you go back and play the events leading up to that anomaly. Then at the end all of the events blend together (rather well I might add) and you play the last of the story with everyone (relatively) and finish the story. If you read the Halo books or know much about the real story line it is not that much of a cliff hanger, just an interesting twist at the end. Campaign did have it's down sides though. First the banshee mission is way too short and was a huge knock off of H3... I mean really escort a Phantom around...common... Also some of the commentary get really bloody annoying and the AI could have been better (like actually keep up). The play through was fine except at the end I was somewhat tired of tunnels, streets and corridors. So campaign gets a 7/10.
Firefight is a whole other story. First off let me get this off my chest. WTF IS UP WITH NO MULTIPLAYER SEARCH!!! THAT IS F*ING BS!!!. Now that is over really they have the technology to set up a search, how hard is that? Make me wonder if they themselves were doubting the success of the game. Out side of that I love firefight. To me it is a great blend of both COD and Halo. First, sure you can run and gun like halo but if you do that too much your going to die. I love how they brought back the health from H1. You have your stamina (shields) and your health. Stamina recharges, health does not (you need to get something like a med pack but really looks like a bacta tank from Republic Commando). Some times I wish there were more weapons but other times it makes me glad because it feel a little more realistic that way. The first time I played I was with two other people and we got to 344,956 points on normal. Simply put, if it is too easy turn up the difficulty, and if normal is too hard, well then...play more. I also love how the lives are shared, the whole weakest link thing really plays in here, I have played matches where me and one of my teammates never died yet the third guy being stupid lost all 7 lives. Can be annoying but work as a team, win as a team. I am sure your tired reading now so let me sum up. I love firefight but hate that I can only play when friends are on. Also in fights you just have to use the tool for the job (grunts pistol, brutes smg, tank laser, simple). Firefight 8.5/10
