Upgrade You Xbox 360 Hard Drive

i was wondering if i upgrade a friends hard drive do i need his xbox to format the drive or does the drive just need a valid 360 serial number to use on any xbox 360

Theres no need to alert the moderators of the rules. Hard drive 'flashing' is not illegal. The flashing rules pertain to DVD drives.

Flashing a DVD drive allows you to download and copy games which is stealing. Flashing a different HDD just saves you money, as you can't use it to steal any software.

I'm sure that's a fussy gray line for some people, but as far as I see it there is nothing wrong as long as were not stealing any software.

Microsoft said they won't be selling the 250GB drive as a stand alone, which is complete crap... So your looking at a $400 HDD basically. If they ever get their head out of their ass and sell the 250 drive then we all know it's going to cost as much as a damn Arcade 360....

with the common hard drives they cant tell, with the 250's they might be able to tell that its going on but not which are which

I didnt watch the whole tut but I didnt see the part where he flashed the new drive, so no, that won't work
