360 and Platinum Hits ...

Postby tizz78 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 11:56 am

Last I heard the 360 will be " backward compatable " , but only with the Platinum Hits titles and with the Hard drive installed .... :?
If I understand correctly it's that Nvidia owns the " rights " on the chip and software to run it . Now Nvidia is producing chips for the Sony PS3 , at least that's the last I heard .....

i dont feel the need for a new topic since it is just as revlevent to this one.
i have heard this for several places, and it makes alot of sence to me. the xbox 360's HDD will come pre loaded with games and also the 360 may have the abiltity to rip games to the HDD for xbox emulation (strictly xbox games) i know that is a stupid thought (since MS would be promoting the pirating of games).
the ripping ability is most likely not true, but the HDD coming preloaded sounds true.

None of that was mentioned in the last " Game Informer " I read .... Sounds like smoke to me .... M$ confirmed the " Platinum Hits " to play on the 360 but Nvidia won't release rights for all games ....

No the ripping of games is untrue. Also i dont think that there will be games already on the hard drive. In my opinion it is a $400 paper weight, I probably wont even purchase one until there is a game worth buying. The hard drive will also only come preloaded with some misic videos and possibly some movies.

From what I gather any game will be playable based on whether microsoft has released a compatibility update for it. I dont think platinum hits or anthing has any bearing on what will work when its ready for each game it will be released. I would imagine that the halo games will be of most importance to them.

I wouldnt call it a paperweight by any means... there are great titles ready for launch. I like the linup that seems to be coming; there is a little something for everyone.

I think the platinum hits was a refernce to a MS rep saying that yes "all platinum hits will be playable on 360 day of release". I read it somewhere do not recall where...

Well , like I said , last I heard M$ was trying to get Nvidia to release the rights of the GPU " driver " , or something along those lines ... The GI mag i have said it was only going to play the plats , I'll look at it again 'cause I was thinking that was said during an interview with the CEO of M$ . But I could be wrong too ....

If Microsoft has ANY Xbox titles running on the 360, you can be assured that they have a blanket licence to use the Nvidia code.

Give them a chance to get the Emu's tuned for each title they feel is popular enough to warrant their time and effort. Remember, up to the last moment, M$ didn't want to even include a hard drive or backward compatibility in the 360. The pressure from the gamers made them cave in.

what the thing he's saying is: Halo and Halo 2 offline mode emulators were preloaded onto the HD's at launch. =) Hope that helps, even a little. What a cliche.

the official line is, M$ DO intend for the 360 to play all - or near enough all - original xbox games eventually, but the developer needs to write the software update, M$ won't do it themselves. When they get the update, if it tests out ok it gets added to the list
