drive won't open unless there is a game inside please help

I'm thinking it could be the belt however a technician told me it couldn't be, but didn't know what it could be. I don't want to waist my time replacing the belt if that is not the case. any suggestions would be a great help. p.s. if it is a belt problem do those pads on top help out instead of changing the belt?

I installed a clead dvd cover on mine and started having the same problem, I ordered some new belts from an online vendor and waiting on them to try that as a fix, I can't really think of anything else that will work.

One of the posts down says that placing the belt in hot water shrinks it some, I haven't tried that but it's an option.

I had that happen once and I put a piece of tape over the magnet (spindle) and trimmed up the edges of the tape with an exacto knife. It seems as tho the motor could not over come the magnet whenever a disc was not inserted. When ever you put a disc in then the magnet is gapped a little. I am not sure if this is a slipping belt problem or a weak motor problem, but the tape remedied it.
